Owning property in Spain does not give UK citizens any right to live there full-time — British nationals are limited to 90 days in any 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area, regardless of whether they own a property. GOV confirms this.

A UK passport allows the holder to remain in Spain and the wider Schengen area for a maximum of 90 days in any 180-day timeframe without requiring a visa.
This rolling period is strictly monitored by border algorithms, and overstaying can result in immediate fines, deportation, or a multi-year ban from re-entering the Schengen zone. To live, work, or study in Spain beyond 90 days, UK passport holders must secure a targeted long-stay national visa.
Flying a dog from the UK to Spain typically costs between £55 and £160 for small dogs travelling in the cabin on European airlines, while cargo rates for larger breeds range from £1,400 to over £8,000 depending on the carrier and crate size.
Notably, UK airlines do not permit dogs in the cabin, and returning to the UK by air requires all pets to travel as highly expensive cargo due to national regulations. Therefore, many owners opt for ground transport via the Eurotunnel or ferry routes, which provide significantly more cost-effective and less stressful alternatives
