The physical transport of household goods across the European continent from the Italian peninsula to the British Isles covers a distance of approximately 1,400 kilometres to Milan and upwards of 1,800 kilometres to Rome. Unlike standard brokers, we are a direct international removal company operating our own private, modern fleet of over 50 vehicles.
Because we manage the entire long-distance journey directly without relying on third-party middlemen or expensive broker commissions, we can pass the savings directly to you, making us one of the most cost-effective options on the European market.
Our service specialises in personal moves pre-packed by the customer. This pre-packing model eliminates unnecessary working man-hours and keeps our international removals exceptionally affordable and streamlined. Rather than using rigid, weekly shipping schedules, we execute relocations strictly on demand, dispatching our vans and lorries as per customer orders. This on-demand model gives you complete control over your collection and delivery times.
An important logistical challenge when moving within Italy is navigating urban access restrictions. Major Italian cities—including Rome, Milan, Florence, Turin, Genoa, and Naples—enforce strict Zona Traffico Limitato (ZTL) regulations in their historic centres. Entering a ZTL without a valid permit results in automated, camera-generated fines and can significantly delay your delivery.
Please note that securing the necessary temporary transit or loading permits from your local town hall (Comune) is the customer’s sole responsibility. Because you know your local layout, neighbourhood parking situations, and municipal guidelines best, you are in the ideal position to coordinate directly with your local authority. We strongly advise arranging these access permissions well in advance of our driver’s arrival to prevent border-cleared vans from facing loading delays at your doorstep.
Pricing for our international removals is determined by the total volume of the shipment and the total distance travelled. The company offers five standardised volumetric tiers designed to accommodate various move sizes, from single-room student moves to full-house relocations14. Each tier has strict weight and volume limits to prevent vehicle overloading and maintain safety standards.
| Volume Tier (m³) | Cargo Space Visual Analogy | Weight Limit (kg) | Recommended Service and Move Size |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 Cubic Metres | Equivalent to roughly 40 medium boxes (50cm x 50cm x 50cm) or 1/4 of a standard Luton van. | Up to 300 kg | Small apartment, student moves, or box-only transport. |
| 10 Cubic Metres | Fits the contents of a small flat or roughly 80 boxes, filling 1/2 of a Luton van. | Up to 600 kg | 1-bedroom flat relocations with minor furniture. |
| 15 Cubic Metres | Fills a nearly full Luton van. Shipped as an eco-friendly part-load. | Up to 1,200 kg | Medium 2-bedroom home relocations. |
| 20 Cubic Metres | Equivalent to a dedicated Luton van for exclusive use. | Up to 1,500 kg | Standard 2 to 3-bedroom family home relocations. |
| 30 Cubic Metres | Provides maximum road capacity via a high-volume direct box vehicle. | Up to 2,400 kg | Large 3 to 4-bedroom house relocations. |
To maintain absolute transparency, all standard quotes are fixed and inclusive of fuel costs, channel crossing/ferry fares, customs administration fees, standard transit insurance up to £20,000, and two hours of driver loading assistance. There are no hidden fees or surprise surcharges.

Since the UK left the European Union, executing international removals from Italy is treated as a formal import. This requires complete and accurate documentation to prevent delays or customs issues at the border. Private relocations qualify for duty-free entry via Transfer of Residence (ToR) relief from HMRC, saving clients from standard UK import VAT (20%)4. To qualify, you must have lived outside the UK for at least 12 consecutive months and have owned and used the goods for at least 6 months prior to the move.
Unlike general EU moves, Italian customs authorities (Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli) require a specific export declaration. This includes providing your Italian Codice Fiscale (tax code number) and submitting a Dichiarazione di Libero Ingresso (Transfer of Residence declaration) to clear the export border. If these documents are incomplete, the cargo may be held in a bonded warehouse, exposing the shipment to standard Italian IVA of 22% on the declared value.
To ensure a smooth transit, all required documents must be submitted to our compliance team at least three days before collection. Our contracted customs office will then handle the actual UK border clearance paperwork completely free of charge.
| Required Document | Issuing Authority or Source | Regulatory Purpose and Specifications | Relevant Link |

| Codice Fiscale | Agenzia delle Entrate | Your Italian tax identification number. Commonly required for Italian administrative and customs-related processes. | Agenzia Entrate tax identification number |

Managing international removals requires clear terms of service to define responsibilities and minimise risks. To finalise your booking and secure a vehicle and driver, we require a secure 10% online deposit. This deposit is non-refundable and functions as an order processing fee if you choose to cancel your booking. Because you book directly with MyCheapRemovals, there are no middleman commissions or broker fees added to your final price.
The remaining 90% balance must be settled before unloading at the destination. You can pay this remaining balance in cash directly to the driver (in Sterling or Euros) or via bank transfer, provided a validated bank paying-in slip is submitted before unloading begins. The carrier reserves the right to postpone unloading if the balance is unpaid.
Our standard Goods in Transit (GIT) insurance provides coverage up to £20,000 per van. This standard policy covers theft, vehicle accidents, or driver negligence during loading. It does not cover damage caused by inadequate packaging, which remains the client’s responsibility. If you are shipping highly valuable items or have a total cargo value exceeding £20,000, we recommend securing additional independent coverage, as we do not offer premium insurance directly. To keep the insurance valid, you must submit your completed inventory list before the collection date.
To maintain route efficiency, our standard quote includes up to one hour of driver loading assistance and one hour of unloading assistance. If loading or unloading exceeds this timeframe, an additional labour fee of £50 per hour is charged, payable directly to the driver on the spot in cash. The carrier also reserves the right to transfer your goods to an alternative vehicle during transit to optimise routes or comply with local transport regulations.
Because we dispatch our vehicles entirely on demand to match your custom booking, transit is exceptionally direct and rapid. For our dedicated full-van services (20 m³ and 30 m³), the vehicle goes straight to your delivery address with zero intermediate stops, arriving at your UK doorstep in just 2 to 3 working days.
For shared part-load removals from Italy to the UK (5 m³, 10 m³, and 15 m³), delivery typically takes 3 to 5 days for northern Italy and 7 to 10 days for southern regions as we coordinate grouped collections along the route.
Unlike standard EU-to-UK moves, Italian export customs require specific clearance steps. To guarantee a smooth, hassle-free border crossing, you must provide a valid copy of your passport, proof of your Italian tax code (Codice Fiscale) issued by the Agenzia delle Entrate, a signed Dichiarazione di Libero Ingresso (Transfer of Residence declaration), and proof of residency in Italy for at least 12 months.
Most major Italian cities, such as Rome, Milan, Florence, Turin, and Naples, have restricted driving zones in historic centres (ZTL). If your property is inside a ZTL, standard large removal vehicles cannot enter without a permit. As a specialist international removal company, we coordinate with the local town hall (Comune) to obtain a temporary transit permit 48 to 72 hours before loading.
We highly advise against shipping your goods before receiving your approved Transfer of Residence (ToR1) Unique Reference Number (URN) from UK customs.
Shipping without a valid URN means your items cannot clear the border tax-free under Transfer of Residence rules. This exposes your shipment to standard 20% import VAT, heavy customs duties, and potentially expensive port storage fees if your shipment is blocked at border control.
Yes. Due to strict post-Brexit biosecurity, environmental, and transit laws, we are strictly prohibited from carrying perishable foods, live plants, seeds, soil, alcohol, tobacco, or live animals in our standard removal vehicles. Additionally, we cannot transport hazardous chemicals, flammable liquids, or items likely to encourage vermin or cause infection.
