An important logistical challenge when moving within Italy is navigating urban access restrictions. Major Italian cities—including Rome, Milan, Florence, Turin, Genoa, and Naples—enforce strict Zona Traffico Limitato (ZTL) regulations in their historic centres. Entering a ZTL without a valid permit results in automated, camera-generated fines and can significantly delay your delivery.

Please note that securing the necessary temporary transit or loading permits from your local town hall (Comune) is the customer’s sole responsibility. Because you know your local layout, neighbourhood parking situations, and municipal guidelines best, you are in the ideal position to coordinate directly with your local authority. We strongly advise arranging these access permissions well in advance of our driver’s arrival to prevent border-cleared vans from facing loading delays at your doorstep.

Comprehensive Italy-to-UK Volumetric Pricing Framework

Pricing for our international removals is determined by the total volume of the shipment and the total distance travelled. The company offers five standardised volumetric tiers designed to accommodate various move sizes, from single-room student moves to full-house relocations14. Each tier has strict weight and volume limits to prevent vehicle overloading and maintain safety standards.

To maintain absolute transparency, all standard quotes are fixed and inclusive of fuel costs, channel crossing/ferry fares, customs administration fees, standard transit insurance up to £20,000, and two hours of driver loading assistance. There are no hidden fees or surprise surcharges.

Post-Brexit Customs Compliance and Regulatory Framework

Since the UK left the European Union, executing international removals from Italy is treated as a formal import. This requires complete and accurate documentation to prevent delays or customs issues at the border. Private relocations qualify for duty-free entry via Transfer of Residence (ToR) relief from HMRC, saving clients from standard UK import VAT (20%)4. To qualify, you must have lived outside the UK for at least 12 consecutive months and have owned and used the goods for at least 6 months prior to the move.

Unlike general EU moves, Italian customs authorities (Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli) require a specific export declaration. This includes providing your Italian Codice Fiscale (tax code number) and submitting a Dichiarazione di Libero Ingresso (Transfer of Residence declaration) to clear the export border. If these documents are incomplete, the cargo may be held in a bonded warehouse, exposing the shipment to standard Italian IVA of 22% on the declared value.

To ensure a smooth transit, all required documents must be submitted to our compliance team at least three days before collection. Our contracted customs office will then handle the actual UK border clearance paperwork completely free of charge.

Managing international removals requires clear terms of service to define responsibilities and minimise risks. To finalise your booking and secure a vehicle and driver, we require a secure 10% online deposit. This deposit is non-refundable and functions as an order processing fee if you choose to cancel your booking. Because you book directly with MyCheapRemovals, there are no middleman commissions or broker fees added to your final price.

The remaining 90% balance must be settled before unloading at the destination. You can pay this remaining balance in cash directly to the driver (in Sterling or Euros) or via bank transfer, provided a validated bank paying-in slip is submitted before unloading begins. The carrier reserves the right to postpone unloading if the balance is unpaid.

Our standard Goods in Transit (GIT) insurance provides coverage up to £20,000 per van. This standard policy covers theft, vehicle accidents, or driver negligence during loading. It does not cover damage caused by inadequate packaging, which remains the client’s responsibility. If you are shipping highly valuable items or have a total cargo value exceeding £20,000, we recommend securing additional independent coverage, as we do not offer premium insurance directly. To keep the insurance valid, you must submit your completed inventory list before the collection date.

To maintain route efficiency, our standard quote includes up to one hour of driver loading assistance and one hour of unloading assistance. If loading or unloading exceeds this timeframe, an additional labour fee of £50 per hour is charged, payable directly to the driver on the spot in cash. The carrier also reserves the right to transfer your goods to an alternative vehicle during transit to optimise routes or comply with local transport regulations.
